Job Summary: 

The National Account Manager (NAM), is an active member of a cross-functional team (including sales, supply chain, demand planning, operations, logistics, and marketing), responsible for managing buyer relationships and developing new business opportunities for the Deli, Packaged, Fresh Raw and Seasonal businesses for our largest customer, Walmart/Sam’s Club.  Works directly with the Associate Account Manager on analytical support, as well as sales insights and solutions for the Walmart/Sam’s Club business. 

The NAM reviews and translates customer, consumer, category, and product level data into actionable tactics, including proactively making detailed recommendations on product assortment and promotions to enhance sales.  The NAM will support the account team with development and execution of sales plans focused on delivering volume, revenue and profitability goals.  The NAM will also take a leadership role on select projects that will include cross-functional and customer interface.


Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support company and team success by engaging the Butterball Way, caring about people, valuing contributions and empowering to succeed.
  • Deliver sales plan volume, net revenue and margin objectives as a part of account team. 
  • Provides daily/weekly item/category POS/Markdown reports for the Walmart/Sam’s sales team, identifying areas of opportunity and proposing strategies to address.
  • Initiates and leads strategic analytical projects to deliver sales insights and solutions using multiple data sources (Retail Link, GRS, SAP, IRI/Freshlook, etc.).
  • Develops reports, scorecards, dashboards, etc. to pinpoint opportunities to increase retail sales, elevate service levels and drive efficiencies in the supply chain.
  • Creates and delivers results in formats ranging from standard reporting to executive-level presentations by synthesizing technical information in a way that is easy to follow and clearly demonstrates how results inform the business. 
  • Collaborates with the Associate Accounts Manager and Sales Director in the retail sales team’s planning process around identifying strategic opportunities, analyzing and aligning with the team’s business plans.
  • Participates in internal planning and forecasting meetings. Determines root cause problems on forecast accuracy issues and recommends corrective actions.
  • Communicate with buyers via face to face meetings and phone calls.
  • Participate in customer focused sales functions, sales presentations, business reviews and product cuttings.
  • Seek out and pursue new items / expansion opportunities.Identify opportunities and gain new distribution through customer presentations, insights, store visits, broker support and market visits.
  • Work with business development, marketing and supply planning on opportunities, issues, planning and sales forecasting.
  • Facilitates constant communication between supply chain team and the Walmart replenishment team to maintain and strengthen the customer experience with Butterball, while supporting sales growth.
  • Primary contact for internal replenishment managers to execute strategies, coordinate seasonal strategy plans and plan upcoming promotional events along with any additional customer service needs.
  • Provides thought leadership and custom quantitative and/or qualitative analytics on program evaluation and evaluating program/project success.
  • Manages item updates ensuring all Butterball items are updated in Walmart’s online system.
  • Review programs and pricing to ensure we remain competitive while maintaining targeted volume and profit goals.
  • Responsible for trade promotion planning, tracking and reconciliation in Blacksmith.
  • Manages modular updates and execution, coordinating with replenishment team.
  • Interact with and lead Broker partners in support of retail execution at Walmart
  • Deduction management
  • Establish relationships with & interact with Customer Service regarding orders and potential supply issues.  Resolve customer problems and issues.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Should understand the entire sales cycle in addition to industry knowledge.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to navigate, build reports, and interpret Walmart/Sam’s Club internal data.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret syndicated data.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret sales performance to formulate recommendations on pricing, merchandising and distribution.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast changing, team-based environment and develop relationships across functional groups.
  • Strong project management, decision-making, detail orientation, problem solving, and organizational skills.
