Job Summary:

Monitor department performance on a daily basis. Direct all Maintenance Supervisors. Ensure that communication is effective between members of the maintenance department and other departments.  Work directly with the Maintenance Manager to improve plant production and efficiencies.  Maintain a safe working environment and correct any unsafe condition or act in a timely manner.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the performance and productivity of the Maintenance, Boiler/Refrigeration and Wastewater Departments.
  • Be responsible for the Departments and be available when not at the plant for help and guideance.
  • Establish goals for the Maintenance Management Team that are consistent with the goals of the Maintenance Manage.
  • Support and fill in for the Maintenance Manager as needed.
  • Be accountable for the R&M budget and the control of overtime.
  • Support the Supervisors when dealing with Human Resource issues.
  • Responsible for the hiring and discipline of Maintenance Supervisors and Mechanics.
  • Develop both long-term and  short-term goals for the departments and measure the success.
  • Work with the CMMS coordinator to ensure the accuracy of the reports.
  • Be actively involved with the planning and execution of Capital projects.
  • Review work orders and assign them to the appropriate Department and person for completion.
  • Review and explain company policies to the Supervisor.
  • Be a Champion for Safety, Quality and Human Resources by understanding and coaching good manufacturing practices
  • Implement changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department and maintenance crews.
  • Initiate practices and policies to help associates achieve personal and company goals.
  • Use good coaching techniques to analyze and assist associates in resolving issues with repair, modification or construction problems.
  • Interpret specifications. Establish or adjust work procedures to meet project and production schedules.
  • Implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Confer with the Maintenance Manager and Corporate Engineering to   coordinate activities of individual departments relative to maintenance and construction projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Coach, troubleshoot and inspect maintenance work.
  • Be able to use good people skills to assist associates with issues that arise.
  • Computer skills to research, analyze, communicate and document issues.
  • Understand warehousing of parts and inventory management.

Education & Experience: 

  • B.S. Degree in a technical field or equivalent education, training and experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years in manufacturing or food processing

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with MRO Buyer to ensure availability of parts for ongoing operations and project work.
  • Sets priorities for weekend work
  • Coordinates efforts of contractors.
  • Works with Plant Engineer to identify and manage savings projects.
