Job Summary

Supports and assists farm manager(s) and serviceperson(s) with daily management of team members and farm processes, including assigning job tasks and coaching team members. This is a vital position responsible for supporting a culture of teamwork, safety, quality, high performance and continuous improvement in production. Monitor the farm activities to ensure compliance with Butterball standards, work procedures, and production specifications.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the farm and team members
  • Responsible for ensuring all workplace safety, ACWB and biosecurity practices and protocols are followed
  • Plans and manages work schedules and assignments to meet production goals
  • Checks/oversees the farm to ensure team members are performing their tasks correctly and efficiently– including egg gathering, grow out, insemination, litter/nests quality, etc. is successful and adjusts accordingly
  • Provides feedback and coaching to team members to ensure high level performance and address performance concerns
  • Completes records of attendance and hours worked for team members’
  • Completes and submits daily/weekly paperwork and reports (i.e. egg production, timecards, ACWB sign in sheets, feed inventory, mortality, etc.)
  • Collaborates with farm manager status of supplies,  and recommends process improvements to ensure optimal flock/farm performance
  • Troubleshoots mechanical issues with equipment, facilities, and turkey houses (contacting maintenance when needed)
  • Responsible for all upkeep on farm (i.e. grass mowing, trash pick-up, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of farm processes, egg collection, flock/feed samples, egg quality control, fertility, safety and ACWB guidelines, practices, and protocols
  • Problem solving skills to identify problems and review related information to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, division, etc.)
  • Ability to assess performance of self, other individuals, or work areas to provide feedback, make improvements or take corrective action
  • Ability to complete all relevant program requirements satisfactorily
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills (communication, handling conflict, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing

Items to be included in training curriculum (i.e. – ones that will be needed to complete the tasks but may learn them after hire)

  • Knowledge of maintaining and/or organizing data and reports
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for employee performance and feedback, on the job training, and employee relations
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical functions and capabilities of equipment includes applying knowledge to articulate needs in the event of issues
  • Knowledge of corporate/third party audit expectations
  • Knowledge of lighting and ventilation of houses on the farms
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and appropriate actions when deviations occur
  • Strong verbal communication including active listening skills
  • Ability to learn computer systems required to perform essential functions
  • Ability to correctly and effectively perform all jobs on farms
  • Ability to motivate, coach, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job
  • Ability to foster teamwork to get team members to work together to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members and peers
  • Ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflicts

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

This job is open only to current Butterball, LLC team members and who have been employed with the company for at least six (6) months. Butterball, LLC reserves the right to waive this current employment requirement if it determines that there is a business need to do so.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Previous work experience in live animal operations
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)

Work Environment

This position works mostly outside on farms and occasionally in an office. The environment can be hot or cold, dry or wet, dusty, or have odors as normally encountered in animal production.
