Job Description

The Supply Chain Planner-VMI is responsible for the development and verification of demand and inventory plans for assigned customer/product categories that drive the VMI Planning processes.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Perform daily review of orders for VMI customers. This includes creation and adjustment of orders to suit the customer’s instock metrics. This function works directly with the customer’s information systems and passes the reviewed orders to internal customer service for processing.
  • Adjust and maintain optimum customer inventory profile to ensure fulfillment of customer requirements considering forecast accuracy and customer order parameters in conjunction with customer KPIs for inventory and on-time delivery.
  • Analyze sales reports and historical data to forecast customer demand. Review and confirm forecasting in order to aid Demand Planning in developing future forecast. 
  • Monitor On-Time In-Full performance by updating weekly scorecards.
  • Communicate areas for improvement with Supply and Transportation teams in weekly call.

  • Work with the VMI Manager and Supply team to identify Distressed product opportunities and adjust forecast as necessary. Communicate with Sales and customer replenishment teams to consume excess available product.
  • Inform and monitor any changes of business or promotional activities (features) received from sales/customer contacts. Manage and communicate incoming features to demand and supply planners and production facilities.
  • Analyze/Correct issues impacting order fill rate and distressed inventory goals.
  • As assigned, collaborate with master production schedulers considering plant capabilities, raw material availability, customer service goals and inventory objectives through the most effective and efficient use of resources. 
  • Participate in and chair weekly replenishment calls with Sales, Demand Planning, and replenishment team members. This meeting outlines weekly goals and metrics, Transportation and delivery issues, order fill rate issues, and the general state of replenishment as it relates to our customers and sales. Meeting participants provide insight and feedback and ask questions about current issues.
  • Work with Sales team to support business needs including new business and semi-annual modular changes in business by sales category, adjustment of spreadsheet tools and inputs, collaboration with other departments to communicate items, forecasted quantities, and distribution nationwide.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and statistical knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to collaborate with many areas of the company.
  • Must be able to participate effectively as a team member.
  • Attention to detail is integral.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are needed to generate and analyze reports for weekly and monthly processes.
  • Use of planning and reporting systems including JDA, SAP, and online customer resources.

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in Supply and/or Demand Planning.
  • Solid experience working with one or more of the major supply chain software packages. (JDA, SAP, and online customer resources, Walmart, Kroger, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Supply Chain or Economics preferred.
  • Knowledge of Sales, Marketing, Collaborative Planning, Logistics, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR), VMI, demand and supply planning and the Sales Operations Planning processes.
