Job Description


A Safety Trainer, is an important member of the occupational health and safety (OHS) team, providing support and training in all areas of the complex. They assess workplace processes and recognize hazards that may lead to injury, then communicate to employees how to lessen risk of injury. Reducing the risk of injuries caused by chemicals, physical substances or ergonomics is the primary goal. A successful Safety Trainer will have a significant impact on the reduction of workplace injury.


  • Audit the workplace for hazards
  • Develop solutions to eliminate hazards with the OHS team
  • Communicate solutions to other employees
  • Evaluate progress of the solutions that are implemented
  • Demonstrate new processes or equipment
  • Ensure adherence to company health and safety policies
  • Responsible for training documentation
  • Actively participate in the Emergency Action Plan


  • Communication skills are critical for safety trainers. They must be able to convey information effectively in writing and in presentations or speeches to other employees. Listening to other employees also can be crucial in identifying hazards.
  • Critical thinking skills help the trainer reason effectively to weigh possible solutions or approaches to problems. 
  • Knowledge and adherence to the company safety policies and procedures are a must.
  • Must have and maintain an excellent attendance record
  • Must have and maintain an excellent disciplinary record
