Job Summary:
This role supports the Safety Manager in the oversight of Plant Safety procedures. Develop a proactive safety culture. Contribute to Operational productivity. Help ensure plants profitability by managing risk and loss. Manage the medical aspects of the safety department.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in providing Safety Engineering Management to include Facility Safety, Behavioral Safety, Personal Safety and Systems Safety
- Conduct Safety Trainings (Safety Orientation, LOTO, Confined Space, Powered Industrial Truck Safety) as directed for Associates, Supervisors, Managers and Directors
- Conduct behavioral observations
- Conduct/Facilitate accident/incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis
- Perform job safety analysis
- Must have a good understanding of the machinery used in manufacturing food processing
- Ability to identify potential behavioral dangers associated with Departmental operations.
- Requires highly visible presence on the floor, spending approximately 75% of time on the floor
- Communicate with area associates, supervisors, and managers on current safety and health issues observed
- Follow up on open issues from inspections, unsafe condition reports and safety work orders
- Follow up on open issues from associate round tables
- Promote safety culture through open communication and Star Site values
- Work with Health Services department on reviewing and investigating injuries
- Audit Contractors who are working onsite
- Facilitate, monitor and provide guidance for associate safety, health and ergonomic committee roundtables and meetings
- Assist in reviewing and updating training material, safety policies and procedures
- Review Hazard and Behavioral Audit analysis and trending
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as required by operational needs
- The Safety Supervisor performs pre-employment drug screens and physical examinations
- Reviews symptom surveys for new associates
- Evaluates, assesses, and treats job-related associate health issues
- Maintains all associate medical records and workers compensation records
- Conducts annual hearing examinations
- Coordinates health fairs
- Schedules other annual health testing including blood drives
- Maintains OSHA and Worker’s Compensation data
- The Safety Supervisor participates in safety- and health-related committees and meetings
Additional Responsibilities:
- Inspect areas of plant for compliance with Federal, State, Local and Corporate Safety requirements
- Communicate with Associates on a daily basis
- Any other duties assigned by Safety Manager as Business Needs may arise
- Attend Production KPI meetings as needed to provide a safety presence and guidance
- Communicate status of LDC case rate, TRIR and TIR to departments
- Maintain Hazardous Material response Equipment and the ability to respond as a member of the Hazardous Materials Response Team, including the ability to wear an air purifying respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus and varied levels of chemical protective clothing
- Function as a member of the facility’s Incident Command Team, including ability to function as Incident Commander
- Conduct comprehensive Wall to Wall Safety inspections
- Conduct atmospheric sampling for airborne contaminants as required by program
- Calibrate and Test Atmospheric monitoring equipment
- Complete Noise Monitoring
- Meet with Product Vendors to evaluate and recommend new safety products for use in the facility
- Assist Plant Security as requested regarding investigations, assistance, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, Life Safety code, ANSI and NEC regulations
- Solid understanding of basic of Worker’s Compensation
- Ability to collaborate with key partners
- Strong self-initiative
- Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
- Ability to manage various priorities simultaneously
- Ability to drive the Butterball Safety Process throughout the organization
- Use of computers to communicate, collect and analyze data, and for presentations, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, etc.) and other operations applications
Education & Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial safety and health
- Previous supervisory experience in a safety position strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI regulations
- Knowledge of requirements of VPP and/orStar Site preferred
