Job Description

Position Purpose

This Corporate Marketing position will be responsible for providing analysis of consumption, shipment and other syndicated data and make fact-based recommendations for Butterball retail sales, marketing, and executive teams.  This position is integral to the success of the retail division, identifying sales opportunities and developing fact-based selling stories to increase Butterball overall brand sales, share, and profit.  In addition, this position will be responsible for developing standardized database reports and identifying key trends to support strategic business decisions for the divisions.

Additionally, the Insights Manager conducts primary research to answer key questions for the Butterball brand, including questions related to the consumer, the product, the brand, and the competition. This position is involved in the methodology development and recommendations, the execution of the research, and the presentation and recommendations for next steps from a business standpoint based on research results.  Responsible for using, understanding, and sharing out to the organization relevant and insightful secondary research.


  • Act as key contact for retail and all analytics needs.
  • Utilize consumption/shipment databases, communicating to Sales, Marketing and Senior Leadership insights, trends and suggested action plans to maximize return and achievement of corporate goals.
  • Conducts primary research to answer key questions for the Butterball brand
  • Support the sales organization with the collection of market intelligence, translating it into useful information sales can use to influence the trade to expand Butterball brand sales and increase Butterball profitability.
  • Assist the Sales leadership, Team Leaders, Brokers, and Business Development Managers in the account planning process by providing insight into past successes and the rationale for change if needed. This includes the integration and activation of primary research and consumer segmentation.
  • Analyze key internal indicators of business health to support brand/category decision making.
  • Provide the fact foundation for annual Marketing reviews and AOP process.
  • Manage and track the day to day A&P budget needs.
  • Develop and measure key performance indices (KPIs) for the Retail Division.
  • Work cross functionally with foodservice insights manager


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, market research, statistics, economics, or related field.  MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience required in consumer goods, including experience with trade practices and performance spending.  Retail grocery knowledge preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in the food service industry, including knowledge of its distribution systems.
  • Experience with IRI or Nielsen syndicated services required.  FreshLook and Spectra/ShopperSights preferred, as is experience with Retail Link and/or Dunnhumby. 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the following characteristics through past professional and educational experiences

  • Strategic and critical thinking. The Insights Manager will have strategic thinking skills such that he/she advocates initiatives that align with corporate growth strategies and Butterball brand equities. He/she must be able to synthesize many separate pieces of information to draw conclusions relevant to achieving the retail plan, making recommendations that drive decisions across the organization
  • Research and analysis. Critical thinker with an understanding of database structures and the ability to vet the inputs, pull and analyze data, and to draw conclusions and make recommendations. 
  • He/she must have the If they do not have experienced with Nielsen and IRI, proof of extensive analysis work necessary. Excel skills are required.
  • Presentation skills. Ability to build professional and impactful presentations. He/she will attend sales calls and present directly to Butterball leadership and ownership.  Expert PowerPoint skills are required.
  • Budget management. He/she will have the competency to manage the insights budget to ensure costs are accounted for and invoices are paid on time.
  • Influence and advocacy. He/she will be able to drive recommendations to apply insights through the organization, achieving buy-in necessary to get full organizational support.
