Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for all quality assurance functions in the Ozark, AR plant to include the First and Second processing departments. This role also oversees the HACCP program, Salmonella control programs, Quality program and all related policies and procedures.  The FSQA Manager Acts as the liaison with USDA, Sales, Research and Development, and Operations. Manages FSQA personnel reporting to this position, responsible for the budget assigned to this position, conducting audits and follow up on deficiencies, representing FSQA at meetings, seminars outside the company and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day food safety / quality assurance functions for the facility including first and second processing manufacturing and packaging areas. Manage the personnel reporting to this position.  (Staffing, overtime, and other budget items)
  • Program and process auditing. 
  • Required to spend a great deal of time mentoring, training, and coaching direct reports, indirect reports, and possibly operations personnel as well.
  • Use of computers and inventory management programs.
  • Requires a balance of time in the office, outside grounds, laboratory and plant production floor. This includes, time auditing the processing environment, the outside grounds, and the facility.
  • Investigating product and process failures
  • Follow up on customer and consumer feedback
  • Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate staffing conflicts
  • Data handling, analysis and reporting
  • Responsible for product, supplier, warehousing and customer audits as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills which facilitate communication at all levels throughout the organization
  • Proactive problem-solving and critical-thinking approaches to program design, implementation, and improvements
  • Cross-functional team leadership skills as well as coaching/mentoring skills
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision and/or instruction
  • Thorough, practical, and functional knowledge of USDA regulations and directives
  • Knowledge of GFSI/BRC.
  • Functional knowledge of poultry processing.
  • Functional, working knowledge of common computer software programs to include word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and e-mail
  • Knowledge of pest control practices and sanitation cleaning procedures is desirable

Education & Experience: 

  • BS degree (or equivalent) in Food Science, Meat Science, Poultry Science or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • HACCP Certification
