Position Title: Plant Superintendent

Reports to: Production

Butterball Location: Carthage

Shift: Nights

FLSA Classification: Salary Exempt

Job Summary:

Directs the activities of the Burger, Blending and FlexPack operations, overseeing supervisors and  approximately 110 associates in an efficient and safe manner for the desired quality and quantity of work.  Reports to the Operations Manager  the activities of the shift.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises the activities of the assigned departmental supervisors.

  • Directs supervisors with respect to production volume, cost, quality, and meeting production schedules.

  • Confers with the Plant Manager,Operations Manager, and Production Planner to confirm production schedules for the department.

  • Maintains adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good manufacturing practices.

  • Recommends the hiring and releasing of personnel as required to maintain production schedule.

  • Assures that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production and reports deficiences to the maintenance department.

  • Schedules and seeks approval overtime, as required.

  • Monitors to ensure that appropriate production records are prepared and maintained.

  • Maintains good employee relations, takes proper, consistant and judicious disciplinary measures when required, assists supervisors in handling associates issues.

  • Keeps records of departmental activities, as required.

  • Ensures the safe and efficient utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department.

  • Confer with the USDA and QA as needed on issues within the department.

  • Ensures that product coming out each department meets the customers and the companies specifications

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Seek cost reduction projects and test theory before project submission
  • Monitor shop floor control boards and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Review staffing needs
  • Participate in POS/POG, SPF, ISO and other initiatives.
  •  Provide information for addressing NRs and CARs and initiate preventive and corrective action.
  • Coordinate with the various departments activities on the shift (Safety, HR, QA, Payroll, etc.)

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Practical use and knowledge of Company, State and Federal Policies and regulations.

  • Working knowledge and practical use of a computer to communicate, research, analyze data and present information.

  • Practical understanding of processes and procedures used in the Poultry Processing Industry.

  • Good communication and problem solving skills.

  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to manage specified Departments.

Education and Experience

  • BS Degree in Poultry Processing, Management or related field or equivalent training and experience.
  • Five years of experience in meat processing.
