Job Summary:

This position will have the responsibility of scheduling, planning, and coordinating everyday production at Butterball’s flagship plant in Mount Olive, NC. This includes the building and support of scheduling models, supports and leads reporting efforts, product reconciliation as well as backing up FP schedulers. This position will lead automation efforts while maintaining OFR and improving distress. The scheduler will need to analyze, think analytically, and embrace continuous improvement working within Lean and Six Sigma principles.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, build, and publish scheduling models that create a flow of product that meets’
  • demand on a consistent basis
  • Coordinate with planners within operations to ensure raw material supply availability to validate production scheduling
  • Attends plant leadership meetings to understand; including but not limited to: production capacity, planning, shortages, sales orders, new products, rescheduling, data analysis, and project planning
  • Strong programming and tool building skills using full Microsoft suite applications (Excel, Power Query, and Macros)
  • Communicate daily with customer service, distribution, sales, and corporate leadership regarding scheduling, order fill rate, and inventory versus ship
  • Maintain accuracy of data feeding scheduling tools (Master data from various source systems: transactional data, standard, and demonstrated throughputs)
  • Backup lead scheduler as needed as well as backup and support FP schedulers
  • Maintain and improve reporting efforts for product reconciliation
  • Inventory and purchase planning for all lines at Mount Olive
  • Identify, develop, implement, and document continuous improvements centered around product planning and production using industry wide best practices
  • Support ad-hoc projects as assigned or created

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operation in the absence of the department Manager
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in recruiting and retention efforts
  • Attend leadership classes to enhance management skills and knowledge
  • Create and develop cross functional working relationships with key stakeholder, plant management, productions management and general production staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to work within high-performing teams and is highly collaborative
  • Understanding of ERP and advanced planning systems, such as SAP, CAT^2 and JDA.
  • Ability to influence decision making with multiple stakeholders across diverse teams
  • Proficiency using PC-based applications (such as Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and/or Access)
  • Proficiency using technology tools that enable production scheduling and reporting (SAP, AS400, Excel)
  • Basic understanding of Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in a raw materials manufacturing environment (food preferred)

Education & Experience: 

  • 5 or more years of work experience in a complex scheduling model
  • Bachelors degree in engineering/operations/supply chain management/mathematics or similar degree
  • Supply chain/operations certification a plus, such as American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), (CPIM) or lean 3 or more years of work experience in scheduling/planning or similar role
  • Experience performing analysis, determining root causes and initiating improvements to prevent repeat occurrences
  • Exposure to production planning, inventory management or supply management processes
