Job Description

Position Summary: 

The Poult Delivery Driver is responsible for safely transporting live birds from hatcheries to farms in a commercial vehicle.  Additional responsibilities include manually loading and unloading cargo from the pick-up location to the final destination, maintaining shipment paperwork/records, and ensuring that proper sanitation/bio-security protocol is followed at all times. Requires some local driving, and some out of state driving.

Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:

Valid CDL and clean driving record.

Conducts pre and post trip inspections to determine the trucks condition and ensure that everything is in proper running order.

Compare shipping record with delivery ticket to verify proper number of cargo in transfer

Manually load/unload cargo. 

Use loading/unloading equipment, such as dollies and/or pallet jacks, to move cargo during the pre-shipment and/or delivery process. 

Maintain appropriate interior truck conditions for cargo shipment, including appropriate temperature, proper spacing between aisles, properly stacking and securing cargo, maintaining appropriate height of stacked cargo, etc. 

Unload trucks at designated areas, per instructions of area manager. 

Place cargo in proper enclosures/areas, following loading and unloading procedures including proper handling of cargo and stacking cargo at appropriate heights. 

Deliver shipping records to the designated location/person.

Thoroughly clean the interior and exterior of the truck, on a daily basis, using specified chemical disinfectants to prevent contamination.

Drive to farms following all DOT regulations.

Reload empty shipping supplies, and return them to the assigned area at the Hatchery/Farm, or other designated location. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to maintain a valid CDL license and clean driving record. 

Ability to operate a commercial box truck and trailer, with exact maneuverability

Knowledgeable in all DOT regulations regarding operation of a commercial vehicle

Valid CDL in North Carolina with a clean record

One year over the road experience preferred

Ability to maneuver within narrow pathways between stacks of cargo on the truck and throughout the loading/unloading process.

Ability to work efficiently with little supervision

Ability to understand oral and written instructions, and perform simple tasks

Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain and record job related data.

Ability to work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.

Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. 

Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature.

Physical Requirements:

Driving/Sitting for long periods of time.

Standing for long periods of time.

Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists

Lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50lbs or more.

Lift overhead 20lbs or more.

Bend and/or stoop repetitively throughout out shift.

Working with live animals.

Working Conditions/Department Description:

This position requires driving, and working with/inside a commercial truck.

Working in outdoor/seasonal conditions. 

Working inside the Hatchery, including exposure to:

Working in very hot temperatures

Working in very cold temperatures

Working in a dry and/or dusty environment

Working in a damp and/or wet climate.

Working in a farm environment, including working outdoors and in seasonal conditions such as:

Working in very hot temperatures.

Working in very cold temperatures.

Working in dry and/or dusty environment.

Working in damp and/or wet climate.

Working with live animals, and the associated environment, including but not limited to:

Working around foul odors.

Working in a loud/noisy environment.

Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation.
