Position Summary:
To safely transport poults to farms, utilizing care to ensure the birds are not harmed.
Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:
- Reads and interprets loading schedules to ensure on-time arrivals at designated farms.
- Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections on tractor trailer to detect any defects and reports defects to shop for repairs. Prepares pre-trip and post-trip condition reports on tractor trailers.
- Fuels truck.
- Ensures that trailer is properly coupled to tractor trailer.
- Drives to farms for loading of turkeys onto tractor trailer.
- Ensures all loads are secure before leaving farms.
- Proceeds to designated processing plants with loads of turkeys in a safe and timely manner.
- Prepares reports and turns them in as required by the Department of Transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to operate a tractor-trailer truck in tight places with low visibility.
- Ability to make decisions on backing, turning, entering and exiting farms.
- Ability to operate truck on narrow, dimly-lighted roads.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Climb and/or balance oneself.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Working Conditions/Department Description:
- Occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to vibration from truck.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License and at least one year of experience.
Requires specialized skills that are normally learned through combinations of directly relevant vocational training and job experience.
