The Network Engineer provides support for a variety of operational and consultative functions. This position can be a working supervisor for outside contractors. This position will be participating in the design, management, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting and support for all aspects of our Infrastructure. This may include all levels of hardware, operating systems and applications. The equipment may be in Butterball’s data center, a Butterball site, a Butterball co-location or in the Cloud (Azure).


  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation as it relates to server and network topology, equipment and configuration(s)
  • Implement patching/monitoring system for all network equipment to ensure Network equipment is secure and up to date.
  • Maintain Network Systems Backups
  • Firewall Maintenance, including Cisco VPN
  • Ensure networks are running smoothly
  • Undertake routine preventative measures and implement, maintain and monitor network security
  • Ensure systems comply with industry standards
  • Able to push updates with Solarwinds NCM
  • Document network problems
  • Document network implementations/installations
  • Ensure wireless networks are running smoothly
  • Maintain a current inventory list of all networking equipment
  • Build and maintain Hardening scripts as required by the Network Security Team
  • Create action plans, project plans, designs, and implement solutions
  • Level 2 and Level 3 support for problems identified with systems and network
  • Will act as an escalation for Level 1 and Level 2 support technicians
  • Conduct internal penetration tests
  • Work w/ vendors to conduct external penetration tests
  • Use the SolarWinds product suite to create a network utilization baseline
  • Via SolarWinds provide KPI metrics
  • Will be a mentor for other team members
  • Utilize superior customer service skills and maintain the Butterball concept of “One IT”
  • Respond to relevant service requests received from end users
  • Maintain a switch patch management methodology and solution
  • Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability as needed
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Infrastructure and Applications areas
  • Implement pro-active preventative maintenance processes and procedures
  • Ensures stability through performance monitoring and tuning
  • Work within the IT Management System and contribute to its continuous improvement
  • Troubleshoot complex network and communication issues; participate in escalations within a team environment
  • Interact with third party vendors as liaison between client and vendor
  • Manage vendor and consulting relationships to ensure service level agreements are established and met
  • Provide reports and presentations on the status of supported systems as requested
  • Participate in other activities necessary to support all departments and aspects of the Butterball business
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to bend, lift and stoop to install/maintain equipment


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field
  • Minimum of 7-9 years of IT industry networking experience is required.
  • Must have 7 years minimum experience with the following:
    • OSI Model
    • Cisco switches, routers, hubs, ASAs, FTDVs, FMC, WAPs, Cradle Points
    • Cisco IOS
    • Routing protocols BGP, EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, MPLS, 802.1x
    • Expert skills w/ TCP/IP, QoS, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, DNS, UDP, VoIP, Latency
    • Access Control Lists
    • Cabling types and distance requirements
    • Wireshark
    • Wired and Wireless networking
    • Expert network troubleshooting skills
    • Expert documenting w/ MS Visio to create accurate network diagrams and documentation
    • Experience with Active Directory tools and utilities
  • Familiarity with the following:

    • SolarWinds
    • TACACS
    • Skype for Business
    • Citrix
    • Office 365
    • Zendesk, Samanage or other Help Desk ticketing system

  • CCNA, CCNP and or CCDA certification desired
  • Azure knowledge a plus
