Position Summary

This position is responsible for driving the Emerging Innovation strategy to deliver the identification, commercialization, launch and in market performance management of new consumer and customer relevant white space opportunities.  The desired results are successful, “first-to-market” and “fast followers” initiatives for all sales channels.  The position requires an understanding of consumer trends, customer needs and will collaborate with R&D to develop appropriate products/packaging.   

Responsibilities

  • Champion the emerging innovation marketing strategy for the organization by driving opportunities that result in products that are “first-to-market” by collaborating with R&D and other cross functional team members.
  • Collaborate with sales and brand marketing to identify new opportunities for value added, branded product lines.
  • Partner with brand team to develop, recommend, and implement annual marketing plans for emerging innovation business/channel segments, ensuring that it aligns with overall growth strategy.
  • Collaborate with consumer promotion and packaging team as it pertains to the innovation business segment (ex. media planning, custom research, PR, packaging and promotions
  • Assess creative media and manage execution against strategic direction and past performance.
  • Evaluate syndicated data monthly to predict trends, understand implication to strategies, and influence new product development.
  • Gauge marketing plan effectiveness through scorecard/dashboard updates, program tracking, sales impact and next-step action plans.
  • Analyze sales and financial reports in conjunction with business managers and finance to identify potential customer issues, future opportunities and to stay abreast of the overall business health.
  • Partner with retail marketing and all channel partners to facilitate product/packaging development needs and process for introducing new offerings.
  • Partner with Lead R&D Manager to guide technical product research that deliver results meeting or exceeding consumer expectations, organization and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Insights team to identify/validate new product/package innovation opportunities resulting in external marketplace competitive advantage related to new concepts, products and technologies.
  • Provide selling story support (sales calls and product presentations) to the sales and brand marketing team to service existing customers and help gain new ones.
  • Drive open innovation engagement with suppliers to look for new product applications while identifying and implementing new processes and procedures that lead to new product lines and cost savings.

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ branded, value-added, consumer packaged goods experience.
  • Experience working closely with or directly in the areas of sales and marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing a team in new product development (i.e. innovation, marketing and/or research and development).
  • Understands and can translate consumer research into the areas of product concepts, development, and commercialization.
  • Strong understanding of fact-based analysis of industry trends, customer needs, competitive threats, expansion opportunities, and product performance.
  • Solid financial skills in the areas of product cost, margin opportunity and ROI.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate product development concepts and strategies to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships and work collaborativley at all levels within the organization
