Job Description

Job Summary:

The Manager of Integrated Marketing Communications will be responsible to support retail business and brand objectives through communication strategy development, conception, creation and management of all consumer communication initiatives. These include all forms of advertising, consumer promotion and social media including shopper marketing, owned asset management like our website and voice skills (e.g., Alexa.) He/she has ownership of all consumer agency relationships and is responsible for coordinating them all to achieve our consumer communication objectives aligned to brand and campaign guidelines within our budget. He/she will have a deep understanding of our target consumer’s needs and mindset with as clear an understanding of the needs of the retail sales team and the ever-evolving retail customer landscape. He/she is instrumental in the shaping of brand strategies and is responsible with the Sr. Director and CMO to measurably connect our brand equity to our evolving consumer to improve awareness, salience, preference and loyalty.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic agency leadership (advertising, social media, web, shopper, PR exclusive of crisis)
  • Develop and implement all consumer creative
  • Serve as brand steward ensuring all consumer communications are consistent with positioning and corporate priorities and guardrails
  • Lead communication programs and relationships for the organization’s products and image across categories in media of all forms
  • Manage relationships with all consumer communication stakeholders (senior leadership, brand management, innovation, insights, sales), as well as day-to-day relationships with agencies to oversee execution of tactical plans
  • Support new product launches ensuring consistency with Masterbrand strategies and effective trade and consumer connection
  • Guide eCommerce efforts to position Butterball as a leader in this emerging retail space
  • Ownership of the retail marketing budget responsible for balancing and allocating based on annual operating plan and business needs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strategic & critical thinking. The IMC Manager will have strategic thinking skills to advocate communication initiatives that align with corporate growth strategies and Butterball’s brand equities. He/she must be able to synthesize many separate pieces of information to draw conclusions relevant to the business and overall brand initiatives, making recommendations that drive all communication investments to achieve our objectives

  2. Agency leadership. He/she will have experience directing consumer agencies across the consumer communication spectrum. Direct experience with all forms of paid, owned and earned are required. He/she should be expert in negotiating large-scale investment agency contracts. His/her ability to build smooth and high achievement collaboration across agencies to achieve our objectives is critical

  3. Presentation skills. He/she will have experience building professional presentations. He/she will present directly to Butterball leadership and ownership. Strong PowerPoint skills are required

  4. Consumer insight. He/she will have experience working closely with marketing insights to build a superior understanding of our target consumer. He/she will have the ability to draw insightful conclusions from research and to translate learnings into successful communication initiatives

  5. Budget management. He/she will have the competency to manage the consumer budget to wisely invest the funds, maximizing returns. The IMC Manager has responsibility for the entire retail marketing budget—that it is invested wisely, reviewed quarterly with the CMO, and executed flawlessly with vendors and internal finance/accounting

  6. Influence and advocacy. He/she will be able to advocate communication and brand initiatives through the organization, achieving buy-in necessary to get full organizational support

  7. Teamwork and project leadership. He/she will have experience with project management, cross-agency and cross-functional leadership. Proven effectiveness in building critical internal and external relationships and highly effective teams.

  8. Creative design. He/she will have experience building and evaluating briefs, creative concepts and executions based on creativity, strategic alignment and consumer impact

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years leading integrated marketing communications for a branded consumer packaged goods company
  • Prefer a background in/experience marketing food
  • Experience with eCommerce efforts
