Job Description

The logistics analyst is primarily a support for Butterball transportation carrier procurement efforts and transportation carrier management. The role maintains the carrier database and records.  This position will work closely with the senior transportation buyer ensuring that the transportation management system (TMS) is updated with the correct rates, bid packages are prepared, and carrier performance reports are created.  The role will also be required to maintain carrier contracts and insurance requirements. The secondary responsibility of the logistics analyst will be aiding the freight pay group by researching and resolving freight payment issues.  This position will require interaction with transportation carriers as well as internal customers in support of carrier procurement and freight pay.


  • Update and maintain the various spreadsheets, databases and systems (SAP and Lean Logistics TMS) relative to freight pay, rates, routing guides, shipment history, etc.
  • Support the creation, compilation, analysis and communication of various carrier pricing, bid requests, carrier capacity, carrier forecasting and rate procurement.
  • Support the transportation procurement with the creation, compilation, and communication of various reports, scorecards and metrics.
  • Manage transportation exceptions with carriers for overages, shortages and damages (OS&D) and claims on Butterball deliveries.
  • Support the freight payment function in researching and resolving reimbursement requests such as unloading and detention accessorials as needed.
  • Support the transportation operations and procurement function in researching and resolving issues.
  • Create and execute daily business policies and procedures for Logistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Logistics/Business or comparable industry experience.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities are required to extract pertinent information and interpret the data.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an inventory management or warehousing operations role.
  • Experience in record keeping and data base organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills; Microsoft Access skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and SAP desired.
