Position Summary: 

The General Hatchery Associate is responsible for transferring eggs to various areas throughout the hatchery process, including but not limited to: transferring eggs from storage to incubators, from incubators to hatchers, and transferring newly hatched turkeys from hatchers to the Take-Off area.

Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:

Transfers eggs from racks to incubator racks and ensures that eggs are positioned properly.

Weigh samples of eggs and record the data.

Move racks of eggs from storage to incubators. 

Monitor temperatures throughout the hatchery process and report discrepancies to the supervisor.

Check eggs’ fertility.

Transfer eggs from incubators to hatching trays, and place hatching trays in hatchers.

Clean and disinfect empty egg carts.

Wash and disinfect hatchers and hatching area.

Transport newly hatched turkeys to be separated from the egg shells, and transport them to the Take-Off area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work 6 days each week.

Ability to understand oral and written instructions, and perform simple tasks

Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain and record job related data.

Ability to work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.

Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. 

Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature.

Physical Requirements:

Standing for long periods of time.

Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists

Lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50lbs or more.

Lift overhead 20lbs or more.

Bend and/or stoop repetitively throughout out shift.

Working with live animals in a farm environment.

Working Conditions/Department Description:

Working in outdoor/seasonal conditions. 

Working inside the Hatchery, including exposure to:

Working in very hot temperatures, up to 99 degrees Fahrenheit

Working in cool/cold temperatures

Working in a dry and/or dusty environment

Working in a damp and/or wet climate.

Working in a loud/noisy environment

Working with chemicals and the associated smells

Working with live animals, and the associated environment, including but not limited to:

Working around strong odors.

Working in a loud/noisy environment.

Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation.
