Job Description

Position Summary: 

The Egg Pick-Up Driver is responsible for transporting eggs from farms to the hatcheries, as well as manually loading and unloading cargo.

Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:

Inspects the truck to ensure proper/safe function

Verifies that the correct amount of cargo is being transported

Manually load/unload cargo at designated areas, per instructions of area manager. 

Place cargo in proper enclosures/areas, following loading and unloading procedures.

Use loading/unloading equipment, such as dollies and/or pallet jacks, to move cargo during the pre-shipment and/or delivery process. 

Completes pick-up and delivery paperwork

Maintain appropriate interior truck conditions for cargo shipment, including but not limited to: maintaining appropriate interior temperatures, maintaining adequate spacing between aisles, properly stacking and securing cargo, maintaining appropriate height of stacked cargo, etc. 

Deliver shipping paperwork to the designated person and location.

Thoroughly clean the interior and exterior of the truck, on a daily basis, using specified chemical disinfectants.

Follow all DOT regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Valid DL in North Carolina, with a clean driving record

Ability to maneuver within narrow pathways between stacks of cargo on the truck and throughout the loading/unloading process.

Ability to work efficiently with little supervision

Ability to understand oral and written instructions, and perform simple tasks

Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain and record job related data.

Ability to work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.

Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. 

Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature.

Physical Requirements:

Driving/Sitting for long periods of time.

Standing for long periods of time.

Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists

Repetitively lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling 50lbs or more.

Lift overhead 20lbs or more.

Bend and/or stoop repetitively throughout out shift.

Working with live animals in a farm environment.

Working Conditions/Department Description:

This position requires driving, and working with/inside a commercial truck, including long hauls and tandem driving.

Working in outdoor/seasonal conditions. 

Working in very hot temperatures.

Working in very cold temperatures.

Working in dry and/or dusty environment.

Working in damp and/or wet climate.

Working with live animals, and the associated environment, including but not limited to:

Working around foul odors.

Working in a loud/noisy environment.

Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation.
