Position Summary: 

The Egg Gatherer collects eggs from turkey houses, while removing hens from the nests. Eggs are placed in flats and taken to egg wash room.  The Egg Gatherer is responsible for the day to day management of the turkey house.

Essential Duties, Functions and responsibilities:

Remove hens from nesting boxes while gathering eggs.

May maneuver a push cart along breeder house aisles to collect eggs in nesting boxes.

Walk through the breeder house to collect eggs outside the nesting boxes, and ensure that all birds are moved.

Transfer flats of eggs from the barn to the egg wash room and record the number of eggs collected.

Assist in washing eggs and maintain sanitary conditions in the egg wash room.

Wash and disinfect drinkers daily, and replenish drinkers throughout the day to ensure continuous fresh drinking water for the birds.

Maintain sanitary conditions inside the breeder house by maintaining the proper level of shavings in nest boxes and removing all injured and deceased turkeys from the house.

Maintain breeder house living conditions by monitoring and troubleshooting issues with feed lines, drinkers, fans, barn appearance, nest doors, etc..

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work 6 days each week.

Ability to understand oral and written instructions, and perform simple tasks

Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain and record egg gathering information.

Ability to gather eggs in a manner that prevents excessive breakage.

Ability to work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.

Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. 

Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature.

Physical Requirements:

Standing for long periods of time.

Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists

Lift, carry, push, and/or pull 50lbs or more.

Lift overhead 20lbs or more.

Bend and/or stoop repetitively throughout out shift.

Working with live animals in a farm environment

Working Conditions/Department Description:

Working in a farm environment, including working outdoors and in seasonal conditions such as:

Working in very hot temperatures.

Working in very cold temperatures.

Working in dry and/or dusty environment.

Working in damp and/or wet climate.

Working with live animals, and the associated environment, including but not limited to:

Working around foul odors.

Working in a loud/noisy environment.

Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation.
