Job Summary:

Performs advanced cost-accounting work covering material and production costs, costs of sales, research and product development, etc.  This person will compare actual costs to estimates and analyze variances, will develop standard cost data and accurate inventory valuations and will supervise the work of the Accounting Department to ensure proper accounting procedures are followed and that the work is completed.

Essential Functions:

  • Updates the outside purchases records and analyzes the data to search for inconsistancies, trends and other non conforming data.
  • Prepares the monthly cost of sales figures by analyzing material, labor, and other costs that effect the cost syatem.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly journal and general ledger entries..
  • Maintains FIFO inventory system and follows established valuation method.
  • Assists in the physical inventory process and analyzes results to determine reasons for variences.
  • Reviews and audits the costing system including costs for purchased material inventory.
  • Analyzes variances from cost estimates.Prepares report for Operations and Corporate Accounting and recommends changes in estimating process.
  • Supervises the work of the accounting associates and offers assistance and training when needed.
  • Reconciles the monthly balance sheet and analyzes for inconsistancies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Track cost savings projects and report variances to determine reasons, offer solutions to improve outcome.
  • Assemble data weekly from all departments to prepare report and analyzes results.
  • Reconcile all inventories and analyze data to determine inventory levels.
  • Tracks the spending and progression of capital projects

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Excellent working knowledge of SAP.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal to communicate information to Associates and Upper Management
  • Excellent computer skills to communicate and input and analyze data including use of spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Working knowledge of accepted general accounting procedures to include general ledger and journal entries
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and train associates

Education and Experience

  • BS Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent training and experience.
  • Three year of accounting and supervisory experience.
