Job Description

This position reports directly to the CEO and has the direct responsibility for the operations of the company in our poultry processing facilities and operational support functions including Research & Development, Purchasing & Procurement, Engineering and Supply Chain.

The COO provides leadership and vision that aligns our operations’ strategy with company goals driven by the voice of the customer and directs the successful implementation of initiatives necessary to drive our performance. This highly collaborative position is a member of the executive team, works cross-functionally across the organization and plays a key role in driving our culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Lead with compelling strategic vision that is in alignment with the organization’s short and long-term goals; is driven by the voice of the customer; and increases operational performance, drives continuous improvement and mitigates risk
  • Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning
  • Oversee company operations while always prioritizing our team members’ safety first followed by our food safety, quality and the integrated financial impact to the company
  • Champion the organization’s drive to implement a culture of continuous improvement through Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • Constantly monitor the competitive landscape and market conditions to identify opportunities, issues, and risks to recommend tactical strategies
  • Successfully lead our six poultry processing facilities and operational support functions including Research & Development, Purchasing & Procurement, Engineering and Supply Chain
  • Use data driven, fact based decisions to maximize integrated profitability
  • Serve as a leader and role model creating a proactive, empowering and collaborative culture where employees are equipped and driven to excel
  • Partner with Live Operations, Marketing, Innovation, and Quality on new products and packaging and corrective action initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate for the COO role will have a broad background encompassing supply chain, manufacturing, lean concepts, and business management within the food and beverage space.

Qualifications:

  • A proven track record of success and experience leading efforts across multiple manufacturing facilities, establishing and achieving KPIs across all supply chain and operations’ activities
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership, knowledge and experience with key manufacturing processes, best practices, and implementing process improvements to meet the changing business needs while driving strategy and execution
  • Senior leadership experience managing cross-functional teams with demonstrated ability of building a strong, collaborative culture driving and exceeding projected results
  • Demonstrated commitment to prioritize actions based upon workplace safety, food safety, quality and integrated financial impact to the company
  • Demonstrated ability to blend previous experiences and make data driven, fact based decisions relevant to the current situation and business needs; and have the skills and ability to work at the strategic level and then translate those ideas into tactical actions
  • Knowledge, experience and skills to be an effective leader and the ability to manage and influence at all levels and sizes including but not limited to driving a spirit of continuous improvement and open thinking
  • Proven and demonstrated record of success in the development and progression of employees
  • Must exemplify the values of the company including the demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality when necessary and know when to share information that others need to know
  • Solid financial acumen including P&L responsibility, inventory, costs and margins
  • This incumbent should have knowledge about the industry, customers, marketing & sales forecasting and financial analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate to all parts of the organization and our external customers and partners.Must be able to facilitate meetings onsite and remotely

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of Operations or Supply Chain experience at the VP level (consumer goods or food and beverage industry preferred)
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or a preference for a Master’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering or related field and/or equivalent industry experience
