Job Summary: 

This position will have overall responsibility of managing, planning, and directing the production of products in the 2nd Processing area to produce products safely and consistent with quality specifications.  This position will manage front-line Supervisors within the departments for which they are responsible and coordinate activities of the department to meet production needs and ensure an efficient and safe operation.  Will ensure that departmnet operates within compliance of HACCP, USDA and OSHA and ensure associates comply with facility Safety Rules and Company Policies.  This position will be responsbible for developing and maintaining positive employee relations within the department and the coaching and development of Supervisors.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the daily manufacturing operation of all areas for which they are responsible and ensure production goals and standards are met, including safety of associates and quality of product.
  • Ensure all quality and regulatory standards, specifications and policies are met or exceeded
  • Confer with Operations Manager and Production Scheduler to confirm production schedule for their areas of responsibility
  • Conver with USDA and QA as needed with regard to issues within their area of responsibility
  • Ensure maximum use of department's available capacity and effective use of labor, tools and equipment
  • Maintain optimum line speeds, efficient crewing, proficient yields, and have accountability for all variances
  • Review and analyze production reports to ensure achievement of Safety, Quality and Product Cost efficiency goals are met or exceeded
  • Monitors to ensure that appropriate production records, safety reports, and HR reports are completed and maintained as necessary. (i.e.:  production reports, attendance reports, pre-flight check list, staffing reports, training reports)
  • Assist in reviewing all cost, identifying and implementing necessary operational changes to manage cost and remain within budget
  • Helps develop and report key performance indicators for department
  • Coordinate production requirements with maintenance and engineering to maximize line efficiency and minmize downtime
  • Actively participate in Safety, QA and Human Resources initiatives within the facility to include monthly Safety Departmental meetings, Accident Investigations, Monthly Topic Training, GMP Training and Audits, etc.  Ensure that these activities are being condcted in the areas for which they are responsible.
  • Ensure that associates are evaluated and counseled regarding job performance, attendance, etc. with the objective of improving overall department performance. 
  • Coach, Mentor and Develop Supervisors to improve overall performance
  • Manage the daily operation in the absence of the Department Supervisor
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in Recruiting and Retention efforts
  • Attend leadership classes to enhance management skills and knowledge
  • Perform all other duties as necessary to ensure efficiency of operation

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of the Food Manufacturing Industry
  • Knowledge of USDA Regulations and Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA Regulations
  • Basic knowledge of Human Resources principles and employment law
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Strong computer application skills including the utilization of mainframe, network and PC business application software

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor degree in Business, Poultry/Animal Science, Food Science or related Field preferred     OR
  • Three (3) or more years of work experience at a Supervisory level or substantial relevant work experience required
