Job Summary

Manage, direct, and implement operational strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of plant goals while consistently developing others for team and plant success.  Focuses on goals of case fill, cost of sales, safety of the people, quality and safety of the product, and human resources management. Manages all manufacturing activities to achieve effective and efficient use of facilities and personnel as well as conformance to schedules and budgets.

  • You have mindset for Ready to Eat (RTE) food manufacturing and this experience enables you to step in and be an integral part of plant leadership.
  • You have lead teams of 100+; you will lead two direct reports, (superintendents) 5 indirect reports, (Supervisors) and more than 225 hourly production workers to exceed goals.
  • By nature, you are a people first person, balancing your own interests with others; facilitates open dialogue with team members and models collaboration across ever level you work with.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the plant Ready to Eat (RTE) operations to produce all products, within USDA, regulatory and company guidelines and maximize yields with minimal costs.
  • Confers with the Supervisors and the Maintenance Manager to develop action plans to ensure equipment availability for scheduled production.
  • Confers with the Plant Manager and corporate associates to plan both short- and long-term strategies for the plant.
  • Implements goals and strategies through lean manufacturing practices to improve overall plant performance while evaluating continuous improvement activities for future optimization.
  • Analyzes multiple and diverse sources of information (quality, financial, safety, etc.) to define problems accurately before moving solutions while utilizing data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems.
  • Meets with direct reports to formulate action plans to address opportunities and maintain successes.
  • Focuses efforts on continuous improvement while designing processes and procedures that allow managing from a distance.
  • Drive results through always keeping the end in sight while meeting deadline, persisting through challenges and setbacks while building and delivering solutions to meet customer expectations.
  • Observes the management talent base for efficient operations; promotes opportunities for management to upgrade skills through training and education.
  • Uses people, processes, and materials to seek opportunities for cost reduction projects.
  • Oversees the programs instituted by the Safety Manager to ensure the safety and health of our associates.
  • Reports to the Plant Manager on a regular basis the successes and opportunities and develops action plans to address the opportunities.
  • Seeks opportunities with Plant Scheduling to best utilize the plant’s capacity to produce the needed products in a safe and efficient manner
  • Focus on continuous improvement for all processes for sustainable improvement
  • Oversee and work with human resources for hiring and training of operations staff to ensure an efficient and populated workforce
  • Consistently uses multiple methods to develop others and aligns employee career development goals with organizational objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of Ready to Eat (RTE) food manufacturing
  • Knowledge of USDA regulations as well as company policies
  • Experience with and implementing lean manufacturing practices
  • Understand and implement schedules and understand product flow
  • Experience with CAT Squared Inventory Management Systems
  • Understand the safety and health programs and how they are administered
  • Understand basic HR principals and the fair and equal administration of Company Policies
  • Excellent computer and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and formulate action plans to appropriately address opportunities
  • Time Management to properly meet production, employee, and delivery goals
  • Ability and experience leading, directing, and motivating operations employees  

Education & Experience

  • BS Degree in Poultry Processing, Management or related field or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ten years of experience in meat processing
  • 5+ years of experience within a further processing ready to eat manufacturing environment preferred

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participates in plant cuttings to ensure that a quality product is being produced.
  • Participate in USDA, VPP, ISO/BRC and QA meetings and implements action plans as needed.
  • Confers with HR on associate issues and coordinates the need for staffing levels.
  • Frequently audits the plant for safe working conditions and procedures, GMP, and overall housekeeping.
  • Confers with contract sanitation to ensure that the plant is cleaned and sanitized and made ready for on time starts.
  • Prepares the reports to corporate officials and ensure the reports properly reflect the results of the plant.
