Job Summary – The Assistant Hatchery Manager will assist the Hatchery Manager in all aspects of ensuring the Production Goals of the Hatchery are met.  This will include the Supervision of subordinate associates, scheduling duties and job assignments.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  •  Assist in the Supervision of driver fleet, poult delivery and egg pick-up.
  • Responsible for helping to maintain DOT Driver Files and information, ensuring drivers are up to date on all DOT Requirements.
  • Assist in egg procurement and set schedules, transfer crews, production and maintenance throughout the facility.
  • Serve as back up to Hatchery Manager in maintaining KRONOS time for all associates. 
  • Assist in hiring, scheduling, disciplinary procedures of associates.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, conduct safety training and safety meetings as required.
  • Assist in other departments of the hatchery as needed to cover vacations, leaves, etc.
  • Analyze semen samples collected from toms in production for quality each week.
  • Collect weights for boxes containing 100 poults each four out of five mornings of the workweek.
  • Inspect eggs for cleaniliness and quality each week.
  • Sample the air quality in each incubator and in the egg storage, monthly using medica plates to measure bacterial growth.
  • Check cleanliness of machinery using bacterial sample collection techniques.
  • Provide quality checks of machinery, air quality, temperatures and other testing as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good verbal, written and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Basic computer skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Ability to work well with others including supervising and coaching associates.
  • Ability to collect, document and interpret scientific data.
  • Understand general calculations such as division, multiplication, percentages and yeilds

Ed        Education & Experience: 

  • Associate’s or Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Field or equivalent preferred
  • Two years experience in scientific data collection
