Assistant Feed Mill Manager

Reports to: Feed Mill Manager                    Department: Feed Mill


Job Summary:

Assists the Feed Mill Manager with directing the operations of the Feed Mill including manufacturing, delivery, quality, production costs and employee relations.

Essential Function:

1.      Oversees the operations to provide for best manufacturing practices. Insures that all manufacturing practice policies set forth by the Company are completed and documented as assigned. Insures that FDA requirements are followed and documented. 

2.      Insures proper delivery to Company and Contract farms is accurate and timely.

3.      Insures proper quality control procedures and policies (including HACCP) are adhered to for ingredients and finished feeds.

4.      Responsible for the operational costs including, manufacturing, delivery and labor. Prepares annual budgets to include volumes and dollars. Responsible for capital expenditure projects for the Mill: Delivery equipment; enviromental, quality control, facilities maintenance and expansion requirements.

5.      Monitors and minimizes shrink in ingredients and finished feeds.

6.      Provides for good “housekeeping” practices. Insures a clean environment throughout Mill.

7.      Enforces and is responsible for all safety procedures and processes necessary to maintain a safe working enviroment.

8.      Directs all preventative maintenance programs both in manufacturing and delivery. Establishes schedules for major maintenance repairs.

9.      Completes special projects as assigned by Feed Mill Manager.

10.    Ensures safety and well being of Butterball employees through safety meetings, safety training, safety documentation and continually striving for zero accidents.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

Two years scheduling , logistics or related administrative experience. Knowledge of DOT regulations. P.C. experience and communication skills. Knowledge of grow-out operations

Education and Experience

1.   Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Feed Technology or related field.

2.   Three years experience in Feed Mill management.

3.   Computer skills and experience in a Union emviroment strongly desired.

Physical Requirements









Seeing:  Must be able to read reports and use computer


Hearing:  Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers








Grasping/Feeling:  Must be able to write, type and use phone system


Working Conditions:

Usual office and plant exposures with occasional exposure to undesirable elements.
